Community Vision

Steering Committee
A project Steering Committee has been developed for the KYOVA 2040  MTP and the Downtown Huntington Access Study.  Individuals or agencies participating in this Steering Committee include the  City of Huntington, Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce, Cabell-Huntington Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center, Marshall University, the development community, and other key stakeholders.  The intent of the Steering Committee is to serve in an advisory role, but with significant participation in visioning exercises and information feedback.   

Vision
“To create a Plan that enhances the safety, mobility, and appearance of the downtown Huntington area and its gateways while promoting quality development, connectivity, economic vitality, and protecting the community character.”

Goals & Objectives

  • Support the economic vitality of the metropolitan area, especially by enabling global competitiveness, productivity, and efficiency
  • Increase the safety of the transportation system for motorized and nonmotorized users
  • Improve security of the transportation system for motorized and nonmotorized users
  • Increase the accessibility and mobility of people and for freight
  • Protect and enhance the environment, promote livability, improve the quality of life, and promote consistency between transportation improvements and local planned growth and economic development patterns
  • Enhance the integration and connectivity of the transportation system, across and between modes, for people and freight
  • Enhance the appearance and safety of mobility corridors and viaducts
  • Emphasize the preservation of the existing transportation system
  • Improve the mobility “choices” between key activity centers (like Marshall University, hospitals, parks) and downtown
